A 14-year-old boy admitted deliberately starting wildfires in Portugal using matches and a scooter.
Police believe he sparked blazes in Seidões, Ardegão, and Arnozela.
The boy told officers he acted out of frustration over poor school results and social struggles.
Authorities have not ruled out that he may have acted with others, the Polícia Judiciária said.
Investigation Reveals Widespread Fire Activity
Police launched inquiries after repeated fires struck the same parishes during summer.
Authorities said the blazes destroyed several hectares and alarmed local residents.
Braga Judicial Police completed the probe and handed the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The Family and Children’s Court will now handle the minor’s case.
By 20 August, authorities had arrested 52 suspects for arson, most in August.
Emergency Teams Battle Active Vinhais Fire
Emergency services reported 97 fires still burning on Friday, though most remained under control.
The Vinhais fire posed the greatest threat, spreading across three fronts since Tuesday morning.
Firefighters deployed over 400 personnel, 140 vehicles, and six planes to tackle the blaze.
Two fronts remained mostly contained, while one front stayed hard to access.
Dropping temperatures aided firefighting, but IPMA warned of extreme wildfire risk across southern and interior regions.
