Patrick Bamford has signed a short-term deal with Sheffield United, just seven months after leading abusive chants about their manager, Chris Wilder, during Leeds United’s promotion celebrations.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds in August, has joined the Championship strugglers until January as Wilder looks to boost his side’s struggling attack.
Bamford and Wilder have a history dating back to 2018–19, when Wilder called the striker a “muppet” during their rivalry in the race for Premier League promotion. Despite the past tension, both men have since made peace.
Following the viral chant in April, Bamford and then-Leeds boss Daniel Farke called Wilder to apologise. Wilder later said: “I’ve no issue at all with it… when I was playing, we used to give it and take it — that’s part and parcel of the game.”
Bamford, who has battled injuries in recent years, made 18 appearances for Leeds last season. He will now try to reignite his career and help United climb out of the Championship relegation zone.
