Officials flagged fake websites and political ads during Moldova’s election and false videos about Ukrainian President Zelenskyy aimed at weakening public support.
The UK imposed sanctions on Russian media outlets and ideological groups to counter rising information warfare from hostile foreign states.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced measures against Telegram channel Rybar, the Foundation for the Support and Protection of Compatriots Abroad, and Aleksandr Dugin’s think-tank, the Centre for Geopolitical Expertise.
She also sanctioned two China-based firms for widespread cyberattacks targeting the UK and its allies.

    Hybrid Threats Challenge Western Security

Cooper warned at the Foreign Office that Russia and its allies increasingly employ hybrid tactics to sabotage infrastructure and influence democratic processes.
She said adversaries use generative AI and manipulated videos on social media to undermine support for Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion.
Officials cited Moldova’s election deception and false Zelenskyy content as current examples of strategic disinformation campaigns.

Strengthening Alliances Amid Rising Global Risks

Cooper marked the 100th anniversary of the Locarno Treaties, highlighting Europe’s historical commitment to peace and collaboration.
She stressed that international cooperation remains crucial as US President Trump challenges alliances and raises doubts about America’s NATO support.
After meeting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Cooper confirmed the United States reaffirmed its strong commitment to NATO.
