Barcelona strike late to claim derby victory and widen lead

Barcelona earned a thrilling late win over Espanyol, reinforcing their position at the top of La Liga. Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski scored decisive goals in the closing minutes. The victory moved Barcelona seven points clear. The team dominated possession but struggled to break down Espanyol’s compact defense until the final moments.

    Substitutes deliver decisive impact

Hansi Flick urged calm as his side searched for openings. Barcelona circulated the ball and probed Espanyol’s defensive lines. Fermin Lopez provided the breakthrough after coming off the bench. He played a perfect pass into Dani Olmo’s run. Olmo curled a precise shot into the top corner four minutes from time, giving Barcelona the lead.

Barcelona pressed relentlessly after opening the scoring. Lopez again pushed forward on the right flank. He created space and delivered a measured cross. Robert Lewandowski met the ball in the box and finished calmly in the 90th minute. The late double strike secured the derby win.

Barcelona have now scored 12 goals in the final 15 minutes of matches this season. No other La Liga team has reached that figure. Their late-game dominance highlights fitness, focus, and mental strength.

    Early intensity and key saves

Espanyol started the derby with energy and intent. They pressed high and challenged Barcelona’s buildup play. Tyrhys Dolan tested the defense early, but a strong block denied him a clear chance. The home side maintained pressure during the first half.

Goalkeeper Joan Garcia played a vital role for Barcelona. The former Espanyol player made several crucial saves. He left the club last summer after nine years. His reactions kept the home side at bay and preserved a level scoreline.

Marko Dmitrovic later replaced Garcia and remained alert. He denied Eric Garcia from close range in the 72nd minute. The save preserved parity at a key moment. A draw looked likely before Barcelona’s late surge.

    Title race intensifies

Real Madrid remain in second place and continue their chase. They can reduce the gap on Sunday with a home win against Real Betis. A victory would cut the deficit to four points, keeping the title race open.

Espanyol extended their long wait for a league derby win. Their last success against Barcelona came in 2009. They remain fifth after a disciplined showing. Barcelona leave the derby with momentum and a commanding lead.
