Afghanistan announced that its forces killed 58 Pakistani soldiers during overnight clashes along the shared border.
Officials said the operation came after repeated Pakistani violations of Afghan territory and airspace.
Earlier in the week, Afghan leaders accused Pakistan of bombing Kabul and a market in eastern Afghanistan.
Pakistan has not taken responsibility for the alleged attacks.
Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Afghan troops captured 25 Pakistani army posts and wounded 30 soldiers.
He stated that Afghan forces fully control all official borders and de facto lines of the country.
Mujahid added that security forces have largely halted illegal activities across the border.
Kabul Warns Islamabad Over Future Strikes
Afghanistan’s Defence Ministry confirmed its troops launched “retaliatory and successful operations” overnight.
Officials warned that Afghan forces remain ready to deliver a “strong response” if Pakistan violates Afghan territory again.
The Taliban government said it would defend national borders against any aggression from neighbouring countries.
Pakistan has previously targeted what it claims are militant hideouts inside Afghanistan’s remote mountain regions.
The two nations have frequently clashed along their border, with each side accusing the other of provocations.
Border Violence Escalates Regional Tensions
Pakistan accuses Kabul of sheltering Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan fighters who carry out deadly attacks inside its territory.
Afghanistan rejects the accusation, saying it does not permit any country to use its land for hostile actions.
Rising militancy and mutual distrust have deepened tensions between the neighbouring states.
Pakistan also blames India for funding armed groups but has not provided concrete evidence.
Before Kabul’s announcement, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif claimed his army destroyed Afghan posts and forced a retreat.
Pakistani officials released videos showing wrecked Afghan checkpoints, though journalists could not verify the footage.
The Pakistani military said it had neutralised over 200 “Taliban and affiliated terrorists,” with many others injured.
Security officials added that Afghan troops opened fire across several areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, escalating hostilities further.
