Gunmen opened fire at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, killing ten people, including one of the attackers. More than a dozen others sustained injuries. A Hanukkah celebration occurred at the beach when the shooting began. Authorities continue investigating the motive behind the attack.

New South Wales Police confirmed that ten people died in the Sunday shooting. Officers identified one of the deceased as a gunman. Police said another suspected shooter remains in critical condition at a hospital.

Eyewitnesses described terrifying scenes, reporting more than a dozen victims lying in blood. They said dozens more suffered injuries as chaos unfolded along the shoreline.

    Authorities respond amid widespread panic

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese posted a statement on X expressing condolences to the victims and their families. He urged the public to follow police instructions carefully and stay safe.

Albanese called the events at Bondi “shocking and distressing” and said emergency responders actively work to save lives. He stated that his thoughts remain with every person affected by the attack.

He also confirmed federal authorities are cooperating with NSW Police and will share updates as investigations continue. He urged local residents and visitors to rely only on official guidance.

NSW Police warned people on X around 7:30 p.m. local time to take shelter or avoid Bondi Beach entirely. Officers issued the alert after reports of a possible shooting. Videos online captured crowds fleeing as gunshots and sirens filled the area.

    Ongoing investigations seek clarity

Approximately 2,000 people attended the Hanukkah event at the beach before the attack, but investigators have not confirmed any targeted motive. Officials continue examining all possible explanations.

Videos on X showed police detaining two suspects on a civilian bridge. Earlier footage appeared to show them firing weapons from the elevated position, possibly sniper rifles.

Eyewitnesses reported that the shooters fired more than 50 rounds at beach-goers, civilians, and vehicles. Authorities continue collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to clarify the full sequence of events.
